Big, dry and warming, with assertive juniper, citrus brightness and earthy coriander and angelica beneath. Navy Strength at a full 57 percent, made the way it was for British sailors who needed gin that would not spoil their gunpowder. Long, dry and peppery, with a smoothness that belies its power.

Description
The Plymouth distillery, working since 1793, is among the oldest active gin houses in the world, and its Navy Strength bottling carries real history: the 57 percent strength was the level at which gin-soaked gunpowder would still ignite, proof enough for the British Navy. Seven botanicals make up the bill, juniper, coriander, orange and lemon peel, angelica root, orris and cardamom, and the extra power pushes every one of them forward.
The nose is strong juniper with fresh citrus and earthy, herbal nuances. The palate is full-bodied and intense, juniper spice leading over citrus freshness and the spicy lift of coriander and angelica, closing long, dry and warm with a subtle pepper. It makes a commanding gin and tonic with a good Indian tonic and grapefruit zest, and a properly serious Martini.
