    Whitley Neill Raspberry Gin

    700 ml / 41.3%
    New Western

    $34

Juicy Scottish raspberries lead, ripe and sweet, with juniper and a dusting of warm spice keeping it grounded rather than sugary. The fruit comes from the Whitley Neill stable, the family spirits line Johnny Neill revived in 2004 after the baobab-and-physalis original. Liquorice and citrus carry a long, berry-stained finish.

Whitley Neill is Johnny Neill's project, a return to a family distilling line that reaches back to 1762 after a detour through the world of finance. His first London Dry took its cue from a South African trip, with baobab fruit and physalis joining the botanicals, the baobab tree still printed on the bottle. This expression turns north instead, folding juicy Scottish raspberries into the classic base for a sweeter, fruit-forward character.

The nose carries spice, juniper and liquorice beneath the raspberry; the palate is balanced and fruity, the Scottish berries clear and ripe without tipping into syrup. Citrus and raspberry stretch across a long finish. Pour it over ice with tonic and a few fresh raspberries, or use it to colour a summer spritz.
