Description
Yoichi Nikka 12 Years Old is a blended malt expression released under Nikka, the Asahi-owned house founded by Masataka Taketsuru. As a blended malt it draws on two Nikka malt sites, combining the heavier, coal-fired character of Yoichi in Hokkaido with the softer, steam-heated spirit of Miyagikyo in Miyagi Prefecture, the contrasting pair Taketsuru designed as complementary poles of the house range.
Twelve years in Ex-Bourbon casks bring vanilla and soft wood sweetness to the marriage, allowing Yoichi's peat smoke and firm malt to sit alongside Miyagikyo's orchard fruit and gentle floral notes. Bottled at 43% for global markets, the expression shows a rounded, approachable profile typical of the Nikka blended malt style.
