Yamazaki Single Malt Japanese Whisky (Suntory Whisky)

A no age statement single malt from Yamazaki, Japan's first malt whisky distillery, founded by Suntory in 1923 in the humid Shimamoto valley of Osaka Prefecture where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet. This 2024 Japanese market release pairs the house signature Japanese oak with sherry wood, bottled at the standard 43% and showing the most distinctive side of the distillery.

Maturation across mizunara and Oloroso sherry casks shapes a layered, aromatic character. Mizunara, the porous Japanese oak that gives slowly and rewards patience, lends a signature sandalwood and incense note alongside fresh fruit, vanilla and a nutty spice, while the sherry adds dried fruit depth. At 43% the whisky is soft and rounded, the Japanese oak bringing a temple wood fragrance that marks the heart of the Yamazaki signature and Suntory's long devotion to mizunara.
