Description
Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve is the no age statement heart of the core range, made at Suntory's distillery in Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, where soft humidity in the river valley aids the marriage of young and older stock. This release reached drinkers through an event, a familiar pillar of the range from Japan's first malt distillery.
The whisky is built partly on Bordeaux wine casks alongside Oloroso sherry, giving bright red fruit and dried fruit over the distillery's fresh orchard fruit and vanilla. A nutty, fragrant oak and a thread of chocolate fill out the middle, with a faintly husky finish. Bottled at 43%, it is rounded and approachable, the everyday face of the house style and a clear introduction to its layered fruit.
