Mars The Y.A.

Mars The Y.A. is a no age statement blended malt from Hombo Shuzo, combining spirit from their Tsunuki distillery in Kagoshima and Mars Shinshu distillery in Nagano, bottled at cask strength for the Japan market in 2022. The name The Y.A. references the two distinct sites: the warm, humid southern Kyushu climate of Tsunuki and the high-altitude Central Alps setting of Mars Shinshu, each contributing a different texture to the final vatting.

Maturation in Ex-Bourbon casks draws out vanilla sweetness and woodspice, with the tropical warmth typical of Tsunuki's faster southern maturation sitting alongside the cleaner, crisper register more characteristic of the mountain distillery. The nose carries chocolate and honey, the palate shows oily depth and new wood grip, with citric brightness on the finish. Bottled at 52%, it has presence without the rawness of a higher cask strength release.
