Description
Mars Komagatake is the flagship single malt of Mars Shinshu distillery, run by Hombo Shuzo in Miyada, Nagano prefecture, in the Central Alps at one of Japan's loftiest distilling sites. This NAS expression was bottled in 2025 for global distribution, matured entirely in Ex-Bourbon casks in a style typical of the distillery's clean, mountain-character approach.
The cool Alpine climate of Nagano slows wood extraction and tends to produce a lighter, more restrained style than lowland or coastal Japanese distilleries. Ex-Bourbon maturation typically lends Komagatake its signature vanilla and gentle orchard fruit, with a soft cereal backbone. At 45% this sits in the distillery's standard bottling range, approachable yet carrying the distinct clean mountain character Hombo Shuzo has cultivated since restarting production in 2011.
