Description
Mars Komagatake from Mars Shinshu, Hombo Shuzo's Nagano distillery in the Central Alps at Miyada, is an annually released NAS single malt drawing on the distillery's cask programme. This 2018 European market edition combines bourbon barrel and American white oak maturation, and is bottled at cask strength at 48%.
The dual American oak influence produces a layered but consistently sweet and clean profile: citrus, honey, fresh fruit, vanilla and malt extract are all present, with a light yeasty note adding textural interest. American white oak alongside bourbon barrels allows a direct comparison of used and new wood contributions in the same vatting, giving the 2018 Komagatake a slightly broader oak range than a straight bourbon-cask release would provide.
