Description
Shizuoka Pot Still K is a NAS cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, and this 2022 European market edition stands apart within the series for its more complex cask makeup. Rather than a single wood type, the bottling draws on a combination of Bourbon Barrel, Quarter Cask and Sherry Hogshead maturation, giving the spirit a wider range of influences than most K releases.
The result sits at 55.5% and shows an interplay of fresh fruit and honey from the bourbon oak alongside a smoky, coal-gas edge and new wood tannin, with the Oloroso hogshead adding depth and a hint of dried fruit. The Quarter Cask accelerates the wood influence on the youngest components, adding spice and concentration. Against the K still's clean, faintly herbal base character, the sherry element brings a welcome counterpoint, making this one of the more layered releases in the Pot Still K programme.
