Nishinomiya distillery in Hyogo prefecture was Nikka's dedicated grain operation, closed in 1999 after decades supplying the Nikka blending programme. Independent bottlings from this closed site are scarce, and this release, selected by La Maison du Whisky for an event market, captures single-cask grain from the distillery's last active years. It was distilled in 1997 and bottled fourteen years later in 2011.

The cask is a Remade Hogshead, a rebuilt barrel that typically allows a gentler wood influence than a fresh cooperage, and the result at 58% cask strength is rounded and fruit-forward. Honeyed vanilla and dried tropical fruit sit alongside the clean cereal character typical of Nishinomiya grain, with a fine-grained oak integration that comes from the extended maturation period. A precise and well-preserved example of Japanese grain whisky from this era.
