Description
Nishinomiya was Nikka's grain distillery in Hyogo prefecture, operating until its closure in 1999. Once a cornerstone of the Nikka blending operation, it produced a light, grain-led spirit now available only through individual cask releases from the years it was in production. This single cask was distilled in 1995 and bottled in 2009, thirteen years on, for the French market.
Matured in a single Ex-Bourbon cask and bottled undiluted at 60%, the spirit shows the grain distillery's typical character: vanilla, coconut and soft cereal sweetness with ripe orchard fruit developing over the long maturation. The high natural strength carries heat but also concentration, a combination typical of well-aged Japanese grain whisky from this period.
