Description
Taketsuru 21 Years Old is Nikka's long-aged blended malt combining malt whisky from Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Miyagi Prefecture. This 2014 Japanese domestic release at 46% is distinguished by its Port wood maturation alongside Ex-Bourbon casks, giving the expression a wine-influenced dimension not found in all editions of the 21 year range.
The Port wood contributes dark berry fruit, a gentle sweetness reminiscent of dried fig and plum, and a soft wine-like depth that builds on the vanilla and orchard fruit the bourbon oak provides. At 46%, the blend has additional presence and texture, with Yoichi's firmer malt character and Miyagikyo's softer, more fragrant profile both finding room within the richly layered cask combination.
