Description
Miyagikyo 13 Years Old 1999 is a single cask single malt from Nikka's Miyagi Prefecture distillery, distilled in 1999 and bottled in 2013 from a single Ex-Bourbon hogshead at cask strength. The distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1969 in a river valley near Sendai, is known for producing a lighter, fruitier spirit than Nikka's Yoichi site, and individual casks at this age allow the house character to show with particular clarity.
Thirteen years in a hogshead built vanilla, fresh fruit and honey into the Miyagikyo core, with the bourbon-seasoned oak providing soft wood spice and gentle caramel. At 61%, the high cask strength delivers the spirit with energy and concentration, and the Ex-Bourbon wood keeps the profile clean and fruit-forward rather than heavy. Released globally, it is a sharply defined single-cask snapshot of the distillery.
