Description
Hatozaki Japanese Blended Whisky is a blend produced by Kaikyo Distillery in Akashi, Hyogo, and bottled in 2019 for the European market at 40%. It is an openly labelled blended whisky, and as with many younger Japanese houses building their range, it may include imported spirit alongside Kaikyo's own distillate.
The maturation spans three cask types: Oloroso sherry, Ex-Bourbon and mizunara oak. The result, as the profile suggests, leans fresh and light, with citrus, hay and fragrant floral notes up front, honey and a soft smokiness through the mid-palate, and the characteristic incense and sandalwood that mizunara oak contributes over time. At 40% it is approachable and light-bodied, the mizunara lending a Japanese character without overpowering the blend.
