Description
Hanyu distillery in Saitama Prefecture closed in 2000, and subsequent bottlings from the remaining casks have appeared under various series and cask designations. Cask 5016, an Oloroso Sherry Cask single cask expression, was bottled in 2020 at 58.1% for an event market release, placing it in the later phase of official Hanyu single cask bottlings.
The Oloroso sherry cask is the most sherry-forward maturation path in the Hanyu canon, producing deep dried fruit, dark chocolate and warm spice that reflects the richness of the wood rather than the light, clean distillery character seen in Ex-Bourbon releases. At cask strength the sherry influence is concentrated. This release differs from the Trinitas blended malt series in being listed as a single malt single cask, making the contribution of the individual Oloroso butt the primary story of the bottling.
