Hakushu 18 Years Old is a single malt from Suntory's forest distillery in Yamanashi Prefecture, and this bottling carries a 2015 release date placing it in the earlier part of the expression's recent production history. The global bottling programme draws on high-altitude spirit made with soft mountain meltwater near Hokuto.
Eighteen years of Ex-Bourbon cask maturation develop the distillery's naturally fresh and herbal spirit into something with greater depth and a more defined smoke character. The flavour data here highlights coal-gas smoke as the leading note, with the typical Hakushu profile of green fruit and forest-floor herbal tones providing the backdrop at 43%.
