Fuji Gotemba Distiller's Select 2020 is a single malt whisky from Kirin's Fuji Gotemba distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2020 after six years of maturation. The Distiller's Select series marks distillery-chosen expressions released in 500 ml format, and this edition was bottled at 51% cask strength for the Japanese domestic market.
Six years in Ex-Bourbon casks gives the single malt an early openness of character, with American oak adding vanilla and a light coconut note to the fresh, fruit-forward new make spirit that Fuji Gotemba is known for. No specific tasting notes were declared, but the house single malt style at this relatively young age tends toward clean apple and pear fruit, creamy grain, and a crisp finish. At cask strength the spirit retains its full texture, and water can be used to calibrate the 51% delivery to taste.
