Description
Eigashima Shuzo's White Oak Akashi single malt comes from the Akashi distillery on the coast of Hyogo prefecture, a site with Japan's oldest whisky licence issued in 1919. Distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2020, this 6 Years Old is a single cask, cask strength release at 62%, drawn from a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask and selected for the Dutch market.
Pedro Ximenez is among the most intensely sweet of sherry styles, and six years in this cask gives concentrated dried fruit, dark raisin, chocolate and a rich treacle note over Eigashima's lighter base spirit. At 62% the whisky is full and warming, with the PX sweetness balanced by a structural tannic grip and a lingering finish. This is one of the richest and most cask-dominant expressions in the White Oak single cask programme.
