Description
Eigashima Shuzo, holder of Japan's oldest whisky licence since 1919, produces the White Oak Akashi single malt at its coastal distillery in Hyogo prefecture. This single cask 4 Years Old was distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2020 at cask strength 61% from an Ex-Bourbon cask, released for the Dutch market.
Ex-Bourbon maturation gives vanilla, light orchard fruit and a gentle wood spice to Eigashima's clean and fresh new make. At 61% and just four years old the whisky is direct and lively, with the bourbon wood providing sweetness and a soft creamy texture rather than deep complexity. The Akashi name in the bottle label situates the release firmly within the distillery's coastal Hyogo identity.
