Description
Eigashima Shuzo's White Oak single malt comes from the Akashi distillery in Hyogo prefecture, home to Japan's oldest whisky licence issued in 1919. This 5 Years Old was distilled in 2008, matured in an Ex-Bourbon cask and bottled in 2013 as a single cask, cask strength release at 58% for the Japanese market.
Ex-Bourbon maturation brings vanilla, light orchard fruit and a soft wood spice to Eigashima's clean new make, and at 58% the whisky carries an expressive warmth. Five years in bourbon wood gives a clear, fruit-driven character without yet developing the deeper integration of the longer-aged White Oak releases. The 2008 distillation vintage places this among the earlier single cask expressions from Eigashima's modern cask programme.
