Description
White Oak is the single malt range of Eigashima Shuzo, based at Akashi in Hyogo prefecture under Japan's oldest whisky licence, first granted in 1919. This 12 Years Old is a vatted cask strength release at 50%, matured in Ex-Bourbon barrels and bottled in 2011 for the Polish market.
Ex-Bourbon maturation over twelve years allows vanilla, sweet baking spice, soft orchard fruit and a gentle coconut note to develop fully in Eigashima's clean and relatively light base spirit. Bourbon wood is well-suited to the house style, which tends toward freshness and fruit rather than heaviness, and the extended ageing adds integration and a honeyed depth without losing the distillery's characteristic delicacy. At 50% the whisky is measured and expressive.
