Description
Eigashima Shuzo, operating at Akashi in Hyogo prefecture under Japan's oldest whisky licence, has built a varied single cask programme across its White Oak single malt range since the 1980s. This 6 Years Old was bottled in 2018 as a single cask, cask strength release at 50%, matured in a white wine cask and made available to global markets.
White wine cask maturation is the lighter counterpart to the Oloroso and red wine releases in the White Oak range. It contributes pale stone fruit, pear blossom and a clean, slightly mineral finish over the distillery's fresh and delicate new make character. At six years the influence is fully integrated, and the 50% strength makes this among the most refined and approachable expressions from Eigashima's single cask series.
