Description
White Oak is the single malt label of Eigashima Shuzo, a Hyogo prefecture producer operating on the Akashi coast under Japan's oldest continuous whisky licence, granted in 1919. This 5 Years Old is a single cask release drawn from an ex-Cognac cask and bottled at cask strength at 62% for the Japanese domestic market.
Cognac wood brings dried apricot, vanilla pastry and a delicate floral lift to Eigashima's typically clean and light malt character. In the house style the spirit trends pale and fruit-driven; the Cognac cask steers it toward stone fruit and a rounded brandy-inflected sweetness, with the elevated ABV adding warmth to the finish.
