Description
Suntory Houga is a vintage blend bottled in 2015 after 31 years of maturation from a 1984 distillation, released for the Japan market. It draws on malt from the Yamazaki distillery in Osaka Prefecture and the Hakushu distillery in Yamanashi Prefecture, combined with Chita grain from Aichi Prefecture, making it a full three-distillery Suntory blend at an unusually long age statement.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks across those three decades, the liquid has developed a rich, evolved character: honey and dried fruit from the Yamazaki malt, a subtle smoky and grassy note from the long-aged Hakushu component, and a tobacco-tinged woodiness on the close. At 43%, the oak integration is smooth rather than assertive, with a quiet depth that comes from time in the barrel.
