Description
Founded in 2008 in Saitama prefecture by Ichiro Akuto, Chichibu has become one of the most sought-after craft distilleries in Japan. Its pot-still new make is fruit-forward and vibrant, and even young expressions matured in Ex-Bourbon wood demonstrate the distillery's ability to develop character quickly. This bottling was selected by Cadenhead's for their World Whiskies Individual Cask range and released in 2020.
Six years in Ex-Bourbon casks has brought Chichibu's typical citric brightness to the fore alongside green apple, fresh barley malt and a light vanilla underpinning from the American oak. At cask strength 59% the spirit retains its lively, unfiltered character. The Cadenhead's selection highlights the growing appetite among European independent bottlers for single-cask expressions from this Saitama producer.
