Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama prefecture was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto and quickly became the benchmark for Japan's post-revival craft movement. Its wide wood programme spans bourbon, sherry, wine, mizunara and beyond, giving independent bottlers an unusually varied range of cask selections to draw from. This single cask was distilled in 2015 and bottled in 2025 by Berry Bros and Rudd for European distribution.
The ten-year maturation in a Pinot Noir cask marks this out from Chichibu's more typical bourbon-wood releases. Red fruits, sour cherry and a wine-influenced brightness are the expected contribution of the cask, layered over the distillery's lively orchard fruit and citrus core. At cask strength 65.2% it arrives with considerable presence and concentration.
