Description
Chichibu is Saitama prefecture's celebrated craft distillery, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto under Venture Whisky on the site of his family's whisky heritage. Running small pot stills and a deliberately wide cask programme, it has built a reputation for vibrant, fruit-forward new make that responds generously to wood. This single cask was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2021 by Berry Bros and Rudd for the European market.
Maturation in a single Ex-Bourbon cask over seven years has delivered the distillery's hallmark orchard fruit and vanilla alongside a lick of coconut from the American oak. At cask strength 57.6% the spirit retains its oily weight and freshness. The selection by Berry Bros and Rudd places it in a lineage of European independent bottlings that have helped establish Chichibu's international standing.
