Chichibu is a small distillery in Saitama, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto of Venture Whisky, and has become one of Japan's most collectible craft producers through its vibrant, fruit-forward new make and adventurous cask programme. This 8 Years Old single cask was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2022 at 61.3% for the Italian market, making it a single-site release with a clear destination audience.
Maturation in a Stout beer cask lends a distinctive character to the Chichibu house style: expect roasted grain and coffee depth alongside the distillery's typical orchard fruit and vanilla, with dark berry notes from the beer wood giving the finish a warmth and persistence that the fruit-driven new make alone would not deliver. At cask strength, it arrives undiluted and expressive.
