Description
Cask #2279 from Chichibu's 2012 vintage was matured in a Bordeaux wine cask and released in 2019 as a seven-year-old single-cask event bottling at cask strength. Chichibu, founded by Ichiro Akuto in Saitama under Venture Whisky in 2008, incorporates Bordeaux, Pinot Noir and other European wine wood into its maturation programme as part of its broad cask inventory.
Seven years in Bordeaux wood gives the spirit a red fruit character, with berry, dried plum and a vinous depth sitting over the distillery's typically bright and citric new make energy. At 60.4% the spirit is full and warming, with the Bordeaux tannin providing a gentle grip that balances the fruit sweetness. This event-only bottling represents a wine-influenced expression of the 2012 vintage.
