Description
Released under the Ichiro's Malt label for the Japanese domestic market, this NAS single-cask bottling was distilled at Chichibu in Saitama in 2012. Venture Whisky's Chichibu distillery, established by Ichiro Akuto in 2008, uses a diverse cask programme that regularly includes Port and other wine wood to broaden the spirit's fruit character.
Maturation in a Port cask gives the spirit its deep red berry and dried fruit sweetness, with honey noted in the flavour profile layering over the distillery's inherently vibrant new make. At 59% cask strength the result is full and plush, the Port wood amplifying the fruit-forward warmth that distinguishes Chichibu from more austere Japanese single malts.
