Description
The Peated series marks Chichibu's engagement with peated barley, a deliberate departure from the distillery's typical unpeated profile. This expression, distilled in 2010 at the Saitama site and bottled in 2013 for global release, draws on a combination of Ex-Bourbon and Port casks over three years, producing a vatted rather than single cask result under the Ichiro's Malt label.
At three years the smoke is present and defined but not dominant: sweet citrus, vanilla from the bourbon cask and a gentle berry note from the port wood provide the fruit foundation, with the peat adding a savoury contrast rather than overwhelming the profile. At 53.5% the release is at full bottling strength, with good early integration of the peated new make and the two cask types.
