Description
Chibidaru refers to small barrel maturation, a technique Chichibu used in its early years to develop wood character faster than standard cask sizes allow. This expression, distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2013 for the European market, reflects that approach applied to the distillery's fruit-forward new make over four years in Saitama. The name comes from the Japanese for small barrel, and the programme was one of the more unusual entries in Chichibu's experimental cask range.
Ex-Bourbon wood in a small cask gives a more pronounced vanilla and oak spice at this age than a full-size barrel would, with baked apple, light caramel and a tighter, more structured texture. At 53.5% the spirit sits at cask strength without the sheer intensity of higher-ABV releases, and the small-barrel character gives it a distinctive profile within the 2009 vintage that sets it apart from the standard single cask bottlings.
