Description
This single cask Ichiro's Malt expression from Chichibu in Saitama was distilled in 2009 and released in 2016 after seven years, drawing its character from a combination of Ex-Bourbon and Port maturation. Released for the Japanese domestic market, it sits within the tradition of Chichibu single casks that pair house character with wine-cask influence.
The recorded flavour notes speak to that pairing directly: chocolate, cooked fruit and dried fruit from the bourbon wood, with the Port cask introducing fresh berry brightness, honey and a fragrant lift. At 58.2% cask strength the delivery is a touch less fierce than many Chichibu single casks of the period, making the fruit layers accessible while retaining the full-bodied texture the cask combination produces.
