Chichibu The Peated is a no age statement single malt from Venture Whisky's Chichibu distillery in Saitama, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto. Released in 2022 for the global market, it draws on the distillery's peated barley and sits at cask strength, 53.5%, bottled without dilution to preserve every detail of the spirit.
Maturation across Ex-Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks frames the peat in ripe dark berry, vanilla and a gentle layer of dried fruit, the sherry wood adding body while the bourbon barrel keeps the base fruit-forward, as is typical of Chichibu's vibrant new make character. The finish is firm and warming, the smoke sustained without obscuring the underlying orchard fruit.
