Description
Asaka Yamazakura New Born Cask #17701 was distilled and bottled in 2017 at Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture. This cask was filled into Oloroso sherry wood, which even at a very young age begins to impart dried fruit, dark spice and a characteristic warmth that sets it apart from the bourbon-matured casks in the New Born series.
At 62.2% ABV and essentially unaged by conventional standards, the Oloroso cask has already begun its work: the typically clean, fruit-forward Asaka new make picks up early notes of raisin, walnut and sultana from the sherry wood. This is a transparent, collector-focused release documenting Asaka's experimentation with different cask types from the earliest days of operation. Bottled for the domestic Japanese market.
