A 12 year old Barbados single cask from 1423’s S.B.S line, rich and fruit-led with red fruits, chocolate, dried dates and coconut, a dry, unsweetened and unfiltered rum bottled at cask strength, 55 percent.
Description
S.B.S is the Single Barrel Selection from 1423, the detail-focused Danish bottler, and this 2013 Barbados single cask is bottled at 55 percent, unsweetened and non-chill-filtered in the house's transparent style. It draws on the island's classic pot-and-column distillate for a dry, cask-strength reading of aged Barbados.
The nose is generous, red fruits, chocolate, dried dates and dried fruit, and the palate brings coconut and a sweet, tropical character that comes from the cask rather than any dosage. Distilled from molasses on pot and column stills and matured in ex-bourbon oak across 12 years, it is dry and additive-free, the natural fruit and chocolate depth of Barbados shown without filtration to strip it back. One drinker found it pleasingly sweet on the nose with tropical fruit, chocolate and a touch of coffee, a well-made and honest Bajan single cask that lets the rum speak for itself.
