Tres Hombres Oliver & Oliver Ed. 72 2010

Tres Hombres is the sail-freight rum project, and this Edition 72 draws on Oliver & Oliver, the Dominican blending house behind Cubaney and Opthimus. Carrying a 2010 vintage and fifteen years, the spirit has been matured in ex-bourbon oak and, notably, bottled unsweetened at cask strength of 48.5%. That matters, because Oliver & Oliver's own brands often lean sweet; here the dry, full-proof presentation lets the Dominican character, amber, vanilla and caramelised nuts, show without dosage. At this strength expect more oak grip and concentration than the soft, rounded Dominican norm, a firmer and more spirit-forward read of the style. A single-origin sipper for those who prefer their ron dry and at full proof.
