A high-proof TDL from Trinidad’s living distillery, intense menthol and raspberry over sandalwood and dried fruit, matured in ex-bourbon as a single cask and bottled at a fierce cask strength, 67.3%, by The Colours of Rum.
Description
The Colours of Rum, the young Polish house known for top-tier purist single casks, bottle this TDL from the 2010 vintage, drawn from Trinidad Distillers Limited, the living producer behind Angostura. At fourteen years, single cask and 67.3% with no additives, it is a powerful, dry expression of the island's modern column-still tradition.
From molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it is led by a striking run of cool menthol and mint that carries from nose to finish. Around it sit raspberry and dried fruit, sandalwood and roasted wood, with citrus and fresh fruit on the palate and a fresh, minty close. The body is dry and the wood well judged, with the considerable strength holding together better than the proof suggests. This is a vivid, mint-heavy TDL best approached by drinkers already comfortable with rums above 60%, rewarding for its freshness and balance at full power.
