MHOBA Satara Horizon

MHOBA is a small South African distillery near the Limpopo cane fields, known for working its own fresh cane and chasing big, characterful spirit rather than smooth sweetness. Satara Horizon is a single cask bottled at a hefty 64.6 percent, a drier and more bourbon led counterpart to the funkier Letaba, and it keeps plenty of fruit while pushing wood and intensity to the front.

Distilled from cane juice and rested around four years in ex bourbon, it leads with esters and overripe tropical fruit, pineapple and banana lifted by a cooling menthol freshness, then settles into rustic spice, dry herbs and a woody, allspice edge. The cask strength gives it real heat and oil, so a few drops of water open it up. Honest and unsweetened in feel, it reads as a focused sipper for those who already like loud, fruit driven pot rum.
