Description
This Cask Finish Collection bottling is a single cask from Clement, the 300 year old Martinique estate, made from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses and finished in a cask that held Tokaji, the Hungarian sweet wine. Bottled at cask strength from the 2018 vintage, it is part of Clement's experimental finish series, an aged agricole given an unusual wine-cask twist.
The Tokaji finish leaves a dried-fruit, nutty richness over the cane spirit rather than overt sweetness. The nose carries wood, dried fruit and toasted notes, the palate turns woody with dried apricot, floral tones and spice, and the finish stays woody with dried fruit, chocolate and flowers. The alcohol can show prominently, so it rewards time in the glass to let the fruit and wine character settle. At 55.7% it is a dry, wood-led aged Martinique agricole for drinkers who enjoy a cask-finish experiment with real intensity.
