Description
Rhum J.M has distilled at the foot of Mont Pelee since 1845, drawing on the rich volcanic terroir of Martinique's far north, and is among the most prized of the island's agricole houses. This 2009 vintage was distilled from fresh pressed sugar cane juice and matured around fifteen years in ex-bourbon casks, all under the protection of the Martinique AOC, which bans added sugar.
Tropical ageing works fast, so a fifteen year old agricole shows real depth. Expect the grassy agricole core layered with vanilla, baking spice, toasted oak, cocoa and leather, dry and spice forward rather than sweet. Bottled without additives at 43.6%, this is a vintage agricole made for slow, neat sipping.
