Bar 1802 Engenhos do Norte 970 Wine Cask Finish is a single cask from Engenhos do Norte on Madeira, home of the 970 brand, selected and bottled by Bar 1802. Distilled in 2015 and aged eight years before a wine cask finish, it is offered at a cask strength 55.5%, a characterful island rum with a distinctly winey overlay.
The wine finish announces itself on the nose with red wine, tropical fruit, citrus and allspice. The palate is darker and drier, dried fruit, dark chocolate, oak and warming spice, with the red fruit returning on a long woody finish. As a single cask at full proof it carries real intensity, and a little water softens the wine edge and lets the chocolate through. A distinctive choice for those who enjoy wine influenced rums with grip.
