A 2010 Trinidad rum from Mezan, fourteen years old at 46% from TDL distillate, a fresh and wood-led pour with mint, tropical fruit and a chili tingle over a dry, herbal column-still base.
Description
Mezan bottled this Trinidad rum from the 2010 vintage, a fourteen year old TDL distillate released at 46%. TDL is the living Trinidad distillery behind Angostura, and Mezan's style favours unhurried, lightly presented spirit, here aged in ex-bourbon oak.
The column still molasses base shows the lighter Trinidad character reshaped by long maturation, a nose of sweet wood, vegetal notes and mint, with tropical fruit, more mint and a chili-like tingle on the palate. The finish stays minty and woody, dry and herbal rather than sweet. With fourteen years behind it the oak is well integrated while the spirit keeps its fresh, fragrant edge, a clean and characterful pour that shows the more refined side of living Trinidad rum, distinct from the island's everyday mixing bottlings.
