A single Calvados cask of 2012 Clarendon from Maison Ferrand’s Plantation range, ten years old at 50.8%, pairing Jamaica’s funky molasses pot-still fruit with the baked apple and orchard spice of a Normandy apple-brandy cask.
Description
This Plantation release from Maison Ferrand is a single cask of Clarendon Jamaican rum, distilled from molasses in 2012, aged ten years and matured in a Calvados cask before bottling at a cask-strength 50.8%. As a one-cask outturn it is a small, fixed run rather than a repeatable blend.
Clarendon is a long-standing Jamaican supplier working both pot and column stills, its pot marks known for funk sitting over ripe tropical fruit. The Calvados cask is the defining choice here, an apple-brandy barrel that typically brings baked apple, orchard fruit and warm spice to a rum's banana, oak and hogo. Maison Ferrand often sweetens its Plantation core range, but this cask-strength single cask reads as the drier, more spirit-led side of the house, the fruit of Jamaica met by the orchard character of Normandy.
