Description
This is an unusual release from Demerara Distillers Ltd, a high ester blend of Port Mourant pot still and Diamond high ester spirit from the 2014 vintage, finished in port wood. Coming from the distillery that runs Guyana's heritage stills, it sets out to be funkier and fruitier than the familiar El Dorado age statements, leaning into the ester side of the house.
The pot still backbone shows in the oily Port Mourant woodiness and burnt sugar, while the high ester component throws out a spritzy tropical lift of green apple, kiwi, star fruit, apricot and papaya. Earthy, plummy notes and a peppery, fruit sweet finish round it off. At 51.7 percent it sits at a comfortable sipping strength, balanced and lively, an experimental twist on classic Demerara rather than a sweet, dessert style El Dorado pour.
