Description
A Versailles from Spirit of Rum's Rumclub Private Selection, distilled in 1990 off a single wooden pot still and aged thirty-four years. Versailles, the VSG marque, sits between Enmore and Port Mourant in weight, bright and tannic with a raw wood character, and this old single cask shows it at its most refined.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at 55.1%, it needs long breathing to open, then reveals pencil shavings, yellow fruit, herbs, marzipan and elegant wood, with rich minerality, licorice and an oily, faintly salty depth. The balance across thirty-four years is impressive, the wood never overrunning the fruit. This is uncompromising old Guyana that asks for time and full attention, a wooden-still Demerara made for slow, focused sipping.
