A young Guadeloupe agricole from Bologne, selected by Domaine Ricci, fresh cane juice aged a year in ex-bourbon oak at a fierce 64.3%, fresh and citrussy with sugarcane and a woody edge, finishing round, oily and lightly sweet.
Description
Bologne is one of Guadeloupe's oldest agricole estates on Basse-Terre, and this Rhum Agricole ESB 2023 is a single selection from independent bottler Domaine Ricci, distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice on a column still and aged a year in ex-bourbon oak, the elevage sous bois tier.
A year in oak keeps the freshness of the cane while adding the first notes of wood. The nose is fresh and citrussy with sugarcane and a vegetal lift, the palate woody with citrus, vegetal cane and sugarcane, and the finish turns round, oily, lightly sweet and woody. Bottled at a fierce 64.3% cask strength, it is intense and youthful, dry and unsweetened, wanting water to settle. A vivid young agricole that holds the grassy cane character alongside early oak.
