A 12 year old Saint James from Velier, 2010 Martinique cane juice aged in ex-bourbon at an easy 45%, elegant and softer than usual with chocolate, tropical fruit, hazelnut and a vegetal agricole core.
Description
Velier Saint James Alex Webb Edition is a Martinique agricole from the historic Saint James distillery, bottled by Velier, the Genoese house regarded as the most prestigious name in collectible rum. Distilled from fresh cane juice on a creole column still, this 2010 vintage was matured in ex-bourbon wood and bottled at an approachable 45%.
Twelve years of tropical ageing have softened it. The nose is elegant and gently vegetal with chocolate, citrus and sugarcane, the palate leans on cocoa, tropical fruit and herbal cane, and the finish carries chocolate, hazelnut and a grassy thread. This is the relaxed, refined face of Saint James rather than a high octane agricole punch, with moderate wood and a lighter, easygoing body. A graceful, contemplative sipper for drinkers who prefer poise and an elegant nose over sheer intensity.
