A forty five year old Colombian ron from Destilería Colombiana under the Dictador label, distilled in 1977 and finished with input from Glenfarclas, showing vanilla and lime over maple, molasses, toffee and mocha at 44%.
Description
Dictador draws on Destilería Colombiana for some of the oldest rum in the Spanish style, molasses based and column distilled, where age and cask define everything. This 2 Master release pairs a 1977 vintage with the influence of Scotch house Glenfarclas, one of Dictador's collaborations between rum and a guest cooperage.
Forty five years, much of it in ex-bourbon wood, builds a deep and layered spirit. The nose opens bright with vanilla, lime and ripe fruit before turning spicy, while the palate runs darker into maple, molasses, toffee and mocha. The finish carries woody, roasted notes with apple and more toffee. There is a coffee and cocoa thread typical of Dictador, and like most of the house these old releases tend toward the sweet side. At 44% it is a rich, slow sipper aimed at drinkers who chase very old Colombian ron.
