N. Kröger Wagemut Colorado (Aficionado Collection)

Wagemut Colorado is part of N. Kroger's Aficionado Collection, a Barbados rum given an unusual finish in Japanese Mizunara oak. The bottling sits at the relaxed, after-dinner end of the island's output, built for comfort rather than intensity, and pitched at drinkers curious about Mizunara without the heat of a cask strength release.

Distilled from molasses, it carries a clear added sweetness, so this reads as a soft, rounded sipper rather than a dry Bajan in the Foursquare mould, and the copy is honest about that. The Mizunara finish brings young wood and a spiced edge to the usual island notes, with green apple, coconut and vanilla on the nose, sweet vanilla, ginger and coconut on the palate, and a finish of ginger, maple, tannin and vanilla. The alcohol is well buried at 41.1%, making it a calm cigar companion, though its sweetness is the headline rather than depth or grip.
